Simon of Cyrene, Cyrene was in North Africa, and there are records of African Jews during this period, so it seems obvious Simon was African. The arguments to the contrary seem rather hollow. So I made Simon African, and let Jesus rest on his knees for a moment. I put a curved wall behind them, imagining a contained space under construction.
